Scholarly articles are articles that are published in scholarly journals.  They have been written by experts in academic or professional fields and are intended for an audience of scholars and other professionals.  They will have footnotes and bibliographies listing their sources.  Scholarly articles are often referred to as "peer-reviewed articles" which means that the article has been read and evaluated by members of the field before it is accepted for publication.  Although scholarly articles are referred to as peer reviewed, not all scholarly articles have been peer reviewed.
